Monday evening, CSOFT kicked off LocWorld27 by welcoming guests from all around the globe to the InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin for the opening reception of LocWorld27 Shanghai. The historic hotel was built in 1916 by British newspaper entrepreneur H.E.Morris. The 100-acre estate has welcomed global leaders such as numerous Chinese Party members, US President Richard Nixon, and Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh into its walls.

When entering the doors of the historic landmark, visitors were greeted by CSOFT employees clad in vintage-style qipaos (traditional Chinese dresses). Each individual was given either a fan or a fedora to wear through the evening as inspired by the 1940s Shanghai theme, “Shanghai Soiree.” The smooth notes of jazz music filled the halls as a live band performed classic favorites.

Shunee Yee, CSOFT’s President and CEO, kicked off the event by warmly welcoming everyone to the conference. Waiters drifted through the room, serving wine and hors d’oeuvres as guests became engrossed in conversation. CSOFT’s very own Frank Wen displayed his talent at the cocktail bar, creating everything from Apple Martinis to White Russians.

Guests could put their localization trivia knowledge to the test with the “Stump the Expert” Wheel of Fortune game, racking up points to be cashed in for CSOFT prizes with each correct answer. The question topics ranged from culture to language to geography, giving guests of every background a chance to display their cosmopolitan wisdom.

The evening concluded with our CSOFTers hosting a Qipao Fashion Show, offering a glance into Shanghai’s turn-of-the-century glamour. Want to see for yourself? Check out photos of the event below.
