in Our People, Translation

Welcome to Simply CSOFT. In our continuing series profiling our translators, we meet CSOFT Translator Julia Wehrle, one of our German translators. Just like in previous posts, we ask Wehrle to share her experience of working at CSOFT International and what she thinks makes a good translator.

What makes a good CSOFT Translator?

To be a good translator, you’ve got to know your native language very well. It’s even more  important to be extra-familiar with your own language compared to the language you are translating from. The more intimate and understanding you are of your language, the better you can capture and convey the subtleties of feeling, the underlying tone, and the deeper meaning.

What personality makes a good CSOFT Translator?

While I can’t speak for every good translator, I can speak for myself. For me, a good translator is somebody constantly curious sand always wanting to learn. Being a translator lets you do that. It lets you learn about something new every day. It lets you explore and appreciate the world in new ways. And it lets me appreciate not only the language that I translate but my native language, as well. That’s really enriched my life. So I would say curiosity is the most important personality trait for a translator.

Translating for CSOFT International

When you come to CSOFT International, you should reach out to your colleagues and find someone who can help you learn. And it will be pretty easy for you to do that.
