The promise of wearable technology gets a lot of press these days but seems to center exclusively on fitness trackers and smart watches and relies heavily on high quality IoT translation solutions for market success. We at Simply CSOFT know there’s a lot more out there, so we’d like to share with our readers some of the more offbeat pieces that don’t get as much airtime.

DrumPants

Imagine tapping your thighs and slapping your knees and creating percussive rhythms that actually sound like real instruments. That’s the promise of DrumPants, a Kickstarter project that reportedly began as a practical joke. The name is actually a little misleading, as the kit is in fact a thin strip lined with Velcro so it can be attached to any clothing, inside or out. Once you’re wearing it, you can make over 100 different instrumental sounds and loop, layer, and record them with an accompanying app and computer program.

Neurocam

This device is probably not for the fashion conscious, but for techies, it may be the ultimate gadget. It’s a brain-wave sensor that measures how interesting you find whatever you’re looking at and then uses an algorithm to assign a numeric value between 1 and 100. The interesting things you see during the day are automatically recorded by the smartphone strapped to your head so you can go over the highlights of your day when you get home without ever having to take a picture.

Rufus Cuff

While many smart watches look pretty stylish, their functionality is limited by their size. Other than telling the time, counting steps, and connecting to your smartphone to provide notifications, it doesn’t seem like they’re big enough to do much else. That’s not a problem with the Rufus Cuff. It’s got a 3-inch long screen with a built-in mic, camera, and speaker, and can be used to surf the web or use most smartphone apps. When it comes to wearables, maybe size does matter.

Wearable technologies are just beginning to become popular and already there are a plethora of products on the market with some very unique designs and features that require IoT translation. It seems like we’re starting to enter the futuristic world that was promised us by science fiction writers decades ago and we at Simply CSOFT can hardly wait.
