It’s not often that people get an invitation to attend a meeting at the White House. So when our founder and CEO Shunee Yee received an invitation to the White House ‘Top Women in Business’ briefing, she couldn’t turn it down.

Yee along with other female CEOs from San Francisco and policy makers from the Obama administration convened at the White House on Monday, October 20^th, to address the challenges women face when it comes to raising capital, entering new markets, and growing and scaling their businesses. The event was organized by the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) and Business Forward.

“Women business leaders are powerful advocates for meaningful policy change that will impact both our businesses bottom lines and our communities,” said Yee. “It is a privilege to join so many successful women at the White House to discuss ways to help grow our businesses.”

According to NWBC Chair Carla Harris, women-led businesses are the fastest growing segment of the US economy, with an estimated impact of $2.8 trillion and more than 23 million jobs. The meeting was seen as an important step towards recognizing this contribution as well as breaking down barriers to entry that many female leaders face.

A recent survey by Paypal shows that challenges faced by women are similar to that of all aspiring business owners: finding more customers, completing a business plan and securing financing. Some female participants of the survey also offered some valuable insight into entrepreneurship. To their “younger selves,” U.S. and French women advised, “Trust your instincts,” women entrepreneurs in China said “Start small” and women in Mexico said “Do more research.”
