Enterprise localization is crucial to international business success. The world has shrunk to the point where we now have easy access to what were once exotic and unexplored regions of the world. But while the ability to communicate more widely is a positive aspect of modern living, it also introduces a fair number of challenges, not the least of which is not offending people from different cultural backgrounds.

From childhood, we have all been instilled with fairly clear-cut concepts of right and wrong, and yet we seldom realize that these concepts differ vastly from those of our overseas neighbors. From a linguistic perspective alone, our native languages are all intertwined with niceties that facilitate politeness, respect and clarity in interpersonal communication.  All of this can go out the door, however, as soon as you cross a border and new rules come into play.
