in Globalization Shenzhen 100

If you’ve been following our blog recently, you know that we’ve been covering the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. The city’s perpetual growth and entrepreneurial spirit have inspired CSOFT to embark upon a new project called the Globalization • Shenzhen 100, a unique mutual effort between the government, professional services, and private enterprises that provides a comprehensive ranking of global maturity among Shenzhen’s companies. Yesterday, the project has been officially – and successfully – launched at a press conference in Shenzhen.

Guests from the media, local businesses, and government agencies gathered at the Four Seasons Hotel to attend the event. CSOFT President and CEO Shunee Yee kicked off the press conference with an opening speech, followed by remarks from Shenzhen Vice Mayor Chen Biao and Group Vice President of Mindray Biomedical Electronics David Yin.

“Shenzhen’s continuous growth and entrepreneurial spirit give me confidence that more and more global innovators are going to come out of this burgeoning mega city,” said Shunee Yee. “Due to its historical significance as a miracle city where China’s transformation first began, Shenzhen deserves our full attention and that’s what this project is all about.”

Shenzhen, a city of more than 10 million, did not exist 40 years ago. Today, not only it is a capital of electronics manufacturing, it also boasts the fourth highest GDP in China and is home to prominent tech companies such as Huawei, Tencent and Mindray. Shenzhen has also overtaken Hong Kong as the country’s most competitive city in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences 2014 rankings.

The Shenzhen 100 was initiated by CSOFT and jointly launched by the Shenzhen government. The project aims to identify Shenzhen’s most promising companies and assist them in going global.

“Shenzhen is leading China in terms of globalization. Large companies such as Huawei, BYD and Tencent are the pride of China and they were all founded in this city,” said David Yin. “I hope the Shenzhen 100 project can help identify the ingredients for global success and assist companies as they tackle the risks and challenges of going global.”

CSOFT Globalization Institute

The project will be executed by CSOFT Globalization Institute (CGI), a research body under CSOFT International. During the press conference, CGI Lead Researchers Qian Qiao and Robert Ritacca explained the unique model they use to generate the Shenzhen 100 report. They analyze the global footprint of each participating company and perform a thorough survey of the firm’s globalization management effectiveness. Based on this information, they will consolidate a Shenzhen 100 report to better understand the city’s overall global potential.

“We want to highlight Shenzhen’s most promising startups and assess their global readiness,” said Qian Qiao. “The project not only bridges the gap between Shenzhen’s companies and foreign investors, but also helps the local government set strategic policies to stimulate innovation, attract foreign talent and create a thriving business ecosystem”

We are very excited about this new initiative and we look forward to the release of the first Shenzhen 100 report which is scheduled for June 2016. We hope the report will give participating companies an objective and thorough assessment of their future growth prospects in international markets; here at CSOFT, we are always working hard to help you go global.
